Meet the team.
The Hurd Co was born from a background in marine plastic pollution and a life-long sewing habit. Taylor, the founder, had a hypothesis that, due to its similarity to hemp, waste from California's newly legal marijuana industry could be harnessed to create a textile. Judging from legalization in other states, the company theorized that the industry would expand quickly, and the amount of waste would grow accordingly. Taylor was particularly keen to explore the possibility of addressing microfiber pollution by creating a biodegradable alternative to plastic-based polyester.
Celine Mol, Taylor Heisley-Cook and David Mun are specializing in Corporate Environmental Management and are excited to develop this project within the Eco-Entrepreneurship program at Bren. If you are located in the Santa Barbara area, please look out for them at the New Venture Competition in Spring 2019!
